Bringing Home Swiss Mountain Clinic Part 2

My family’s trip to the Swiss Mountain Clinic was an amazing educational experience. It was also the first time my husband or I have done a full on Liver Detox and Flush!  This is all thanks to Robyn Openshaw (pictured above with Georgia and myself) of Green Smoothie Girl. Robyn has been promoting this liver detox program at Swiss Mountain Clinic for years.  She was visiting clinics across the globe that promised to treat cancer 8 years ago. This was her favorite clinic by far.

Thank you Robyn for sharing and promoting such a great program!

Today, I’m laying it all out for you so you can do this at home. Note I haven’t included some of the additional therapies as they may be difficult to find in your area and you can still have an effective cleanse without them.

If you haven’t read the first post of this three part series yet, read it here.

Part 1 – Prepping Your Liver for the Flush

For the 9 days leading up to the Flush night you’ll be following a no protein, vegan diet with no caffeine, alcohol, sugar or gluten.

Breakfast started with some bitters – in this case 5 drops of Absinthium – 10 minutes before eating. You can use an herbal digestive bitter to get the same effect. The idea is that you get bile production started before eating.

Next, take about an ounce of olive oil with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Then drink 8 ounces of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.

Breakfast included a porridge – you can make one with buckwheat or rice (if you tolerate the carbs), bread made from chestnut and buckwheat flour, unsweetened jams, fruit (low glycemic) and veggies. There was also an alkalizing veggie broth served which was yummy.

During the day (before 3pm) drink about 4 cups of apple juice, this is to help break down crystalline structure of the stones in your liver. Also drink 6 to 8 cups of dandelion tea which is very detoxing for the liver.

Here are some of the meals we had to give you some ideas. Lots of veggies!

SMC-lunch
Salad of Potato, Green Beans and Squash
SMC-soup
Squash Soup
SMC-dinner
Baked sweet potato, roasted cabbage, tomatoes, green beans and sautéed greens

During this part of the liver detox, it’s also helpful to do some coffee enemas or a colon hydrotherapy to help flush out rotting materials from your intestines.  Coffee enemas can be done at home. Colon Hydrotherapy is growing in popularity so you may find someone locally who can do this for you.

Part 2 the Flush

The day of the flush, stop eating at 2pm. At 6 pm, mix 4 tbsps of epsom salt with a little over 2 cups of filtered water (500 ml). Drink 1/4 (120 ml) of this mixture. You can add a little lemon juice to this or add some lemon juice to a cup of water to help wash the taste out of your mouth.

At 8pm, drink another 1/4 part of this mixture (120 ml).

Prepare the next part – squeeze one grapefruit – should equal about 1/2 cup (125 ml) or a bit more of juice. Set aside the same amount of olive oil.

At 9:30 get ready for bed.

At 9:45, add the olive oil to the juice, shake vigorously until completely combined and then drink in 5 to 10 minutes. Go straight to bed laying on your left side in a fetal position for at least 20 minutes. Then you can change position afterwards. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

During the night, you may feel like going to the bathroom. The idea is to flush out everything from your intestines until it’s clear – yes, clear BM’s! If you manage to do this during the night, then there’s no need to take more of the salt water. However, If nothing happens then continue to the next steps.

At 6 am or so, drink another 1/4 part of the salt water mixture – be sure to shake it first as it may have settled.

At 8am, drink the last part of the salt water mixture and then take it easy.

At 10am, have a veggie juice – fresh if possible. Greens and beets are a great combo for this. But if you don’t have a juicer, buy some fresh without too much fruit if any. Drink this slowly.

At noon, you can have lunch! Lunch should still be vegetarian, no protein. Eat slowly and be gentle with yourself on this day. You’ll feel a bit weak. Dinner should be as usual with no animal protein.

The next day, you can reintroduce animal proteins like sheep milk yogurt, sheep or goat cheese, fish or beef.

Be sure to take probiotics from here on out to help restore good gut bacteria. If you haven’t already, you may want to have your doctor test you for vitamin deficiencies like vitamin Bs and D and supplement accordingly.

Next week I’ll be sharing how to continue after this cleanse to help keep your liver and gut happy and healthy!  I’ll also be sharing the dietary theory that the clinic uses.
