Cold Laser Therapy is also revered to as Low Level Light Therapy or LLLT. This form of therapy has been researched, tested and successfully used since the 60’s but more recently has been making it’s way to main stream.
I was first introduced to this type of laser therapy years ago when my hair had fallen out the point of needing to wear a wig. Alopecia Areata can be devastating in so many ways especially when it can’t be hidden with sprinkle on hair follicles and hats.
I bought an iGrow cap and used that every day for months though I started to see some amazing results in just two. There are many other LLLT caps on the market for this use but there’s more than one way to use this type of laser therapy.
In her documentary, the Thyroid Secret, Dr. Wentz interviewed Dr. Kirk Gair, a functional medicine practitioner. Dr. Gair uses cold laser therapy to heal many conditions including the thyroid. In his work, he’s used LLT at 660 nm to decrease TPO antibodies, improve T3 and T4 production and repair the thyroid cellular health. This all results in less medication and sometimes, even getting off medication.
In Dr. Gair’s practice, he’s also seen improvement in patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Patients have been able to reduce their insulin intake and for some with type 2, they’ve been able to get off of insulin and reduce their fasting blood glucose levels.
The great thing is that you can get a home rated device if you don’t have a LLLT laser therapy practitioner near you. Though these may not be quite as powerful as the professional lasers they do provide a lot of the same benefit with regard to thyroid function and lowering inflammation.
Red Therapy Company is one who makes a small portable version of this called RedRush 360. This can be placed on a table or hung on a door, you can sit or stand near it depending on the area you’d like covered and at what intensity.
Joovv is another brand that has small portable devices as well as units that can be attached to one another and hung up on your door to get full body coverage at a closer distance – making the therapy more intense.
This isn’t to say that you should ignore diet and lifestyle changes needed to help heal. But, it’s wonderful to know there are supportive therapies like LLLT that can help you heal more quickly.
